Florence - one of the first dogs we rehomed

Behind bars yet committed no crime:

Each year, in France as in many countries, countless thousands of unwanted animals are abandoned. Many of these will die of starvation or injury, or be killed on the roads. The vast majority of those who find themselves in official ‘refuges’ will be euthanized for the simple reason that supply well outweighs demand. While people continue to insist on buying puppies from breeders, this pitiful waste is unavoidable.

Older dogs

Are you are thinking of giving a home to an animal but unable to take on the commitment of 10-15 years (or more) that comes with a new puppy? Please consider taking in an older dog. Pluck up the courage and go to your local shelter, even if you can only offer a foster home. This generous action alone means a reprieve, especally for those not blessed with good looks or over a certain age. It also offers a lovely solution for all concerned. If the dog is ten years old or more, and adopted through the SPA, financial support is offered via the 30 millions d'amis club who assist with up to 600 € should veterinary fees be incurred at this late stage of the dog's life. Most dogs over this age are in dog pounds and refuges merely because their elderly owners have been hospitalised, moved to a retirement home or died. The majority of these old loyal canine companions spend their last days in the pound before being euthenized!!

Please help them.

Dog Whisperer

We are avid fans of Cesar Millan's excellent dog behaviour TV programme "The Dog Whisperer". This program currently airs every evening at 7pm CET on Sky 3 (free channel on SKY 108) and we highly recommend it for those who are able to receive it. A strange title but an amazing man dealing with all kinds of dog/human behaviour problems. There is so much to be learned through his dog psychology methods as opposed to those dog trainers who insist on using human psychology on dogs. It has certainly made a difference to me and how I respond to different situations with my dogs, and I thought I was pretty good already! If you can't get the TV channel, or even if you can, he has a web site at cesarmillaninc.com which gives a lot of information, monthly newsletters etc.
